CBGB, birthplace of New York punk rock, may be closing its doors permanently come August. Owner Hilly Kristal owes nearly $100,000 in back rent–due to skyrocketing Manhattan real estate costs–and is hoping to renegotiate his lease. It is suspected that his monthly rent will double to $40,000. This news comes shortly after famed New York studio The Hit Factory closed its doors and other high-profile clubs have been forced to shut down or move.http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1497777/20050304/index.jhtml?headlines=true
