Mary J. Blige Gives Us New Love
Miss Blige’s voice on her new album Love & Life never fails, her voice being strong and powerful, yet warm and inviting at the same time. Her silky smooth vocals contrast well with her many guests, especially the marijuana-induced rasp of Method Man on “Love @ 1st Sight.”The intro of Love & Life starts out hard, with P Diddy and Jay-Z opening the album with street smart, hip-hop influences. The whole album continues like this, with tracks like “Not Today” and “Let Me Be The 1” featuring hip-hop’s newest superstar, 50 Cent.
P Diddy’s producing on this album has gone back to a simpler, mid-90’s hip-hop feel (similar to 2Pac and Notorious BIG) in its arranging, percussion selections, and even in Miss Blige’s vocal style. Love & Life has a certain raw, organic feel to it, from the drums and back beats that are strong and slightly loose, to the saxophone and bass samples that sound more live than sampled.
Hip-hop and R&B fans alike will be pumping this album for months to come. Miss Blige has managed to drop another bomb on the public that will make many rotations in clubs and on the radio.
