Smile At The Revolution, Kids!
Everyone’s favorite backwards cap-wearing, nu-metal poster boy Fred Durst has returned from infamy to play A&R executive once again. And yet while Durst endures endless amounts of daily criticism care of Limp Bizkit, few can argue the success of the bands he’s championed. Staind, Puddle of Mudd and Cold have all gone on to sell millions of records thanks in part to Durst. His newest investment, The Revolution Smile, attempt to follow the path of their successors with Above The Noise.The Sacramento-based quartet waste no time on Above The Noise, quickly revving their engines with grunge-laden, edgy guitar riffs, conjuring up memories of the early 90’s grunge revolution that took the country by force. Encompassing the cathartic, repeating guitar storm, is a moody, dark sentiment; texturing the sometimes, repetitious feel of each song. That mood is further streamlined by Shaun Lopez’s edgy, rock solid vocals, giving each song the force of a steamroller, plowing through everything in its path, while still maintaining a degree of uniqueness and musical credibility. Yet while The Revolution Smile’s sound doesn’t have the mainstream appeal of Durst’s other acts, they are creating a revolution of sorts – a mixture of driving, grunge rock with nu-metal force and energy.
