See, Drugs Have Done Some Good Things For Us…
.. and if you don’t believe me, take all your albums and just burn them. A veteran stoner-rockers’ reunion, Mondo Generator’s A Drug Problem that Never Existed is built off of a Frankenstein-punk-side project by Nick Oliveri (Queens of the Stone Age) joined this time by Brant Bjork (Fu Manchu), Dave Catching (Earthlings?) and Molly Maguire (Earthlings?) to make a twisted and fun shot of rock that you just need to jump around to. Like a kid with a toy, A Drug Problem plays with your head by beginning with a speed-metal track then, while it has you off-guard- takes off with diverse, jumpy, and just plain engaging songs of sex, drugs, and partying – but mostly sex – and never loses its momentum; as they take jabs in jest at rock, punk, and metal – as well as themselves.A vocal range and style recalling Mike Patton (but not as cryptic), Oliveri’s vocals never tire as the music swings from the fast and the furious, through the mellow, and back; fueled by heavy use of guitar chords to keep things constantly shifting. Even tracking through several slower acoustic songs, this album is, simply, windows-down summer joyride music made to be air-guitar’ed.
